hiatus

Dipped out for a minute...been good busy times, finally seeing some sun & soaking it up, reconnecting with old friends, living & loving life. In brief just posting up some sounds that have been doing it for me lately. More to come.

Caught Blessed Coast Sound between sets at Jahdan Blakkamoore & Prezident Brown's show a few weeks back at the Mt Tabor Theater here in Portland...huge sound. Reggae, dubstep, dancehall...these guys are crushing it. Huge amount of mixes on their site, I recommend checking out the Day & Night Summer Mix, and the Sound the Horns Dubstep Mix. Filthy.

yeah the kid with the laser-beam vocals....managed to sleep on Hidden Darts up until now, got exposed to it through his cut of No, No, No on some reggae mix or other...point is the shit is fire, so go get it. Tony Starks, nahmean >> Hidden Darts Special Edition

Scratch

This has a lot of potential...roast fish roots cornbread makka! Hope we get treated to some good footage/acid-fueled ranting and raving from Lee Scratch Perry, in many ways the father of dub and reggae music. And also a crazy person.

Saturday Morning Dubs v.2

Feeling this selection of modern roots dub in a digi style from Phase Selector Sound. Got to love how gems like this come out in '99 and the discerning public (ie myself) don't hear about it til over a decade later. Big up Kaptain Bassie for the link on this one.

Brought to us by the fine folks at ROIR records, who also brought us the legendary 10 Ft. Ganja Plant and have been behind countless Bill Laswell, Lee Perry, Dub Trio, and other crucial dub & roots releases. Basically, if the label says ROIR, its worth checking out. Review of Phase Selector Sound's 'Disassemble Dub' below, with samples and download link. As always, support the artists however possible in this crazy future we live in.

saturday morning wobbles

new weird ting for you -

In my never-ending search for soulful, roots, dub and dancehall reggae-oriented music, all sorts of things from across the globe pop up. Ital Tek definitely fits that bill. I guess most would call this dubstep, or something like it...but this seems to be running a little deeper for me, so far. Big, spacious sound...very mellow, but futuristic at the same time. Very enjoyable. Get it here - Ital Tek - Midnite Colour

Stolen off this cat's blog here - Enochian Tapestries, Inc. Other good links include some Rhythm & Sound (who I'll most likely link on here at some point - one of my favorites) as well as a whole heap a other music I've yet to check out. yeaaaaah boy

Spear Burning

Back to the roots...long time fan of Burning Spear and his music. Some favorites posted below, including his scene from the classic movie Rockers.

Policeman & soldier fi stop pressure natty dreadlocks

Small hype for Herbal Essence Sound...been enjoying some of their mixes thoroughly. Particularly the Northside in Dub mix linked below, which features solid heavy dubstep mixes of popular Damien Marley, Alborosie, Sizzla, Max Romeo, Norrisman....killer through & through.

Northside in Dub Volume 2 looks promising. There are many other mixes featured on the site, running the gamut of mellow early morning come-down dubs to heavy heavy dubstep noise. Be sure to check these cats out and sample some of their mixes. Something for everyone, seen?

Me Ave a Likkle Sound

First things first. Got hipped to this classic roots dancehall gem last summer...props to my next-door neighbor, talented artist, rudeboy Bun vs the Snail

I listen to this mix at least once a week...probably more like 5 times. All the big names represented....Tenor Saw, Half Pint, Yellowman....classics top to bottom. Get cultured.

Courtesy of the fine folks at The World's Best Ever. Great blog with all sorts of art, design, bullshit, and a huge ongoing series of Sound Advice mixes from all sorts of guests. No surprises that the reggae, dancehall and hip-hop ones are my favorites.

Get this shit. Summer BBQ essential sound type situation.

hopping on this sucker to usher in a new year, in part. another trip around the sun for myself this month as well...though like wine and stinky cheese, things seem to be improving with age. nah vex so.

i would like to thank my sponsors, in no particular order: music, family and friends, herbalism, trees, mountains, lakes and rivers, sunlight and moonlight, bike rides and bus rides.

greetings, hive mind.

i am a musician, teacher, student, dreamer, and rambler residing the past few years in the northwest hideaway of portland, oregon. i have just recently submitted my graduate school application in the speech and hearing sciences, and look forward to seeing where that takes me. what ways will this discipline present to be combined with music, rhythm, and sound, with healing as the ultimate goal?

seeking a balance, in all things. i am a trumpet player, by nature and by trade, and have been at it for the better part of seventeen years. i'm suffering from performance and creative withdrawal currently, having taken the last tour off with the band i work with. school and work duties called, and i'm thankful that this crew of talented and kind folks respects and understands this. i am blessed to work with the escort service, the premier reggae backing band in the northwest. this past year has granted me the opportunity to take some incredible trips and share the stage with some amazing and inspiring artists working with these boys. i'm fiending to do more works with them, but in the mean time kindly link with us on facebook for info on upcoming tours and projects:
